BOBST At Chinaplas 2026, BOBST demonstrated the future of flexible packaging
At the recent Chinaplas 2026 in Shanghai (April 21–24, 2026), BOBST showcased a range of future-ready flexible packaging solutions, for industry professionals from Southeast Asia and across the globe.These pioneering solutions address key industry pain points and redefine industry standards.
The BOBST EXPERT K5, the world’s first fully automated metallizer, is designed to simplify traditionally complex, skill-dependent processes by automating critical functions such as aluminum pool control. This innovation reduces reliance on highly experienced operators, especially on wide machines, while enabling faster setup and changeovers, consistent high-quality output, and reduced waste. By transforming metallizing into a more controlled and repeatable process, the EXPERT K5 delivers greater efficiency, reliability, and productivity for converters.
The newly upgraded ECO Mode developed for EXPERT 6003 Gravure Printing Press represents a leap from “static idle-saving” to “dynamic process-wide energy management.” By utilizing an “automatic airflow and smart saving” strategy, the system significantly reduces energy costs, providing converters with a tangible path to higher profitability.
Meanwhile, BOBST demonstrated how the VISION CI flexo press can precisely handle 18μm MDOPE, an ultra-thin mono-material. By balancing high-quality printing with rapid job changeovers, it effectively solves the processing challenges associated with eco-friendly substrates.
Making its debut was the REFLECT system, an innovative solution for laminators specifically developed for the Chinese and surrounding regional markets. Through real-time monitoring of coating weight and closed-loop control, this solution allows converters to precisely lock in adhesive costs, making profitability more transparent.
Furthermore, BOBST’s proprietary oneBARRIER fiber-based and mono-material high-barrier solutions were on show, along with the sustainable product portfolio developed at the Bobst Changzhou Competence Center. These provide a scalable “decarbonization template” for global converters through industry-leading printing and laminating processes.
Bobst Changzhou Competence Center: Witnessing a Leap in Productivity
In parallel with the exhibition, BOBST hosted a high-impact four-day “Dual‑Venue Synergy” demonstration event. BOBST Changzhou welcomed over 100 flexible packaging printers and converters from across the APAC region, including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Participants were invited to the BOBST Changzhou Competence Center for an immersive, close-up experience featuring live demonstrations of flagship machinery.
During the demonstrations, the NOVA RS 5003 gravure printing press showcased high-efficiency printing on 18μm MDOPE substrates. Attendees were particularly impressed by the TAPS, which reduces material waste to industry-leading levels.
Guests also witnessed a combined demonstration of the VISION CI flexo press and the SX 550 solventless laminator. This setup validated the color fidelity and high-speed stability of the “Flexo + Solventless” process, offering a mature alternative for Southeast Asian converters pursuing low-carbon production.
For medium-to-long run lamination needs, the DA 800 multi-function laminator demonstrated the high-speed performance of its flexo trolley process. A key highlight was the REFLECT system, which uses closed-loop management to monitor adhesive consumption in real-time, helping customers achieve more refined management standards in actual production.

Southeast Asian customers participating in the event noted that the visit provided more than just a look at BOBST’s leadership in sustainable technology; it offered practical experience in optimizing production workflows, controlling material costs, and enhancing environmental compliance.
